Prompts and special appearance by local Poet & Author Lourdes Leiner

Writing Your Ode Tonight

Chance will choose your subject.

Write a brief poem in its honor.

An ode is a poem of praise.

Three to ten lines is perfect.

Odes can be serious, funny, nostalgic, or strange.

Poets have written odes to all sorts of things:

birds, wind, urns, tomatoes, socks, salt, tortillas.

Pablo Neruda.

“Ode to Wine” (Oda al vino),

excerpt from his collection of

elemental odes celebrating everyday things

Wine the color of day,

wine the color of night,

wine with purple feet

or topaz blood,

wine, starry son

of the earth.

A night of deliberate slowness.  Typewriters, prompts and paper provided, or bring your own. No experience needed. Just show up.
